Cardiovascular Disease and Antioxidant Supplements
Heart problems are not caused by a single set of circumstances and you can’t anticpate that a single answer will work for everyone. And in fact, some reasons might be completely out of your control. But, it’s still a worthwhile idea to do what you can to gain an upper hand over heart disease . To start with – we understand that free radical build-up can damage single cells and left unchecked lead to damaging the heart and cardiovascular system. It’s been proven that antioxidants can scrub free radicals and avoid cell destruction . So, can antioxidant supplements prevent heart disease?
Research results are mixed . Supplements based on the antioxidant vitamin E, for example , haven’t been demonstrated to reduce the chances of stroke, heart disease, or other heart difficulties . While the supplement may contain antioxidants, they don’t seem to help.
Antioxidants can also be had from beta carotene supplements , but doctors agree too much beta carotene should be avoided . It can unfortunately cause a rise in in cardiovascular and other heart issues and diseases So mega dosing beta carotene as a way to put anti oxidants into your body to fight cardiovascular disease is -you’ll agree- a bad idea.
What does seem like a good idea is a diet rich in antioxidant foods.
Fruits, whole grain foods and vegetables with a high content antioxidants have been proven to reduce the chances for heart disease. To help lower the chances for of cardiovascular diseases, you may need to modify your diet to at some of the leading antioxidant foods like – dried beans – red, kidney and pinto ; wild blueberries; other berries like cranberries, raspberries and cultivated blueberries . There are more , but adding berries and dried beans to your diet would be a great start.
Natural antioxidants look like the best bet and there is also L-glutathione which is produced in the body. As the Master Antioxidant, glutathione will be another tool in your heart disease defense arsenal, but it’s just not readily absorbed in the form of an oral antioxidant supplement . An option will be a glutathione precursor like MaxGXL from Max International.
And if you really want to help your heart by boosting your supply of antioxidants – stop smoking. ( Not much of a news flash, is it?) Smoking has been unquestionably linked to the production of free radicals, so you’ll need to add more antioxidants just to make up for the smoking. While you’re at it – watch your blood pressure, eat foods high in fiber and other nutrients, and exercise regularly .
