Precision cleaning is a critical requirement for contact lenses and optical glasses .  Scratches and damage is a fairly common risk when cleaning lenses manually    Automated cleaning with ultrasonic cleaners can minimize such risks while you enjoy better cleansing results that are fairly difficult to achieve through manual methods.

Ultrasonic cleaners use high frequency sound waves to agitate a cleaning solution that create infinitesimal bubbles. These bubbles implode releasing microscopic points of high energy that dislodge dirt and grime at the micron level. 

While bigger ultrasonic cleaner systems  use more power, the ones appropriate for contact lenses, eyewear, as well as optical components of professional instruments are typically of a lower power rating or will have a power alteration dial to ensure that the setting does not damage your lenses.  .

The process of cleaning is uncomplicated.  Pour the cleaning solution into the cleaner.  Place the contact lens into the brackets, which are conveniently marked left and right.  Immerse these into the solution.  There are preset frequency and timings at which cleaning can be done.  Usually two to three minutes.  Switch it on.  The transducer in the unit creates bubbles within the fluid that expand and implode.  The energy released during the implosion is what does the cleaning.  Through this process protein build-up on the lens as well as the dust and grime is gently but efficaciously removed.  Once the cleaning process is done, you can wear the lens immediately.  It would be best to rinse the lens bracket with plain water and permit it to air dry.

A plus point is the fact that even if your lenses are dirtier than normal you can still stick with the saline solution as the main cleansing action is dependent on the ultrasonic waves generated and not on the cleaning solution itself.  Those who wear contact lens will appreciate the difference that a mild cleaning solution can make.  The cleaning cycle in general is about two-minutes but this timing can vary dependent on a number of factors.  Be sure to check with both the lens vendor as well as the ultrasonic cleaner seller to know the best settings to get your lenses cleansed.
